The General- Secretary of the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions, Shahir Saad, welcomed the General Assembly’s decision and the overwhelming vote in its favor, noting that this result reflects the recognition of most countries worldwide of the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights and their inalienable claim to their land. Saad affirmed that the support of such a large number of states sends a clear message that the international community rejects the continuation of the occupation and the unilateral measures imposed on Palestinian land, and supports efforts aimed at ending the occupation and establishing the independent State of Palestine on the 1967 borders. He added that this resolution strengthens the standing of the Palestinian cause and reaffirms the world’s commitment to international law and UN resolutions.
By an overwhelming majority, the UN General Assembly voted in favor of a resolution demanding the withdrawal of the occupying entity from the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, and the realization of the inalienable rights of our people—foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state.
Voting results:
✔️ 151 countries in favor
❌ Only 11 against
➖ 11 abstentions
The resolution was submitted by Palestine and a number of friendly states. It reaffirmed the United Nations’ responsibility toward the Question of Palestine until a just and comprehensive solution is achieved, and emphasized that the occupation of our land by force is null and illegal.
The resolution stressed:
The illegality of settlements, the Wall, and all attempts to alter the identity of Jerusalem and the character of the occupied land.
The need for the occupying power to comply with international law and halt its crimes against Palestinian civilians.
The immediate end of the occupation and the establishment of the Palestinian state on the 1967 borders.
The rejection of any demographic or geographic changes in the Gaza Strip, affirming that it is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory.
The necessity of unifying Gaza and the West Bank under the framework of the Palestinian National Authority without delay.
It also called on all countries not to recognize any measures imposed by the occupying power on the occupied land and not to provide any support that could be used to reinforce settlement activities.
