From Palestine to Nepal: Solidarity and Support in the Face of the Natural Disaster
\nJerusalems \u2013 Palestine 27 August 2026<\/p>\n
The General Federation of Palestine Trade Unions (PGFTU), representing the Palestinian trade union movement and working class, expresses its profound sorrow and solidarity with the people, workers and trade union movement of Nepal following the devastating natural disaster and severe flooding and landslides affecting areas along the Nepal\u2013China border.<\/p>\n
The PGFTU extends its full solidarity and unwavering support to the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions, the Nepalese trade union movement, workers and their families, and the people of Nepal during this difficult and painful time.<\/p>\n
Trade union solidarity is a fundamental value that transcends borders. In times of disaster and humanitarian crisis, workers and trade unions around the world stand together in defence of human life, dignity and safety.<\/p>\n
With deep sorrow, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives or remain missing, and to the entire Nepalese people. We wish all those injured a full and speedy recovery and express our sincere appreciation to the rescue and emergency teams working tirelessly under extremely difficult circumstances.<\/p>\n
The PGFTU calls for an urgent and coordinated humanitarian response to support the affected communities, ensure access to food, clean water, shelter and medical care, and mobilize all necessary resources for search, rescue and relief operations. Particular attention must be given to protecting vulnerable communities and workers exposed to continuing risks from landslides, flooding and other hazards.<\/p>\n
We also stress the importance of strengthening disaster preparedness, early-warning systems, emergency response mechanisms and public safety measures, with adequate resources and effective coordination among governmental, trade union, civil society and humanitarian institutions. Protecting human life and ensuring the safety of workers and communities must remain a fundamental priority.<\/p>\n
The PGFTU salutes with profound respect the rescue workers, emergency medical teams, government and community emergency committees, trade unions, volunteers, humanitarian organizations and all those working on the ground to save lives and provide assistance to the affected population.<\/p>\n
A Call for International Trade Union Solidarity<\/p>\n
The General Federation of Palestine Trade Unions calls upon trade unions and workers\u2019 organizations across the Arab region and around the world, as well as international trade union federations and humanitarian organizations, to express their solidarity with the people and workers of Nepal and to support the ongoing rescue, relief and humanitarian efforts.<\/p>\n
The Palestinian trade union movement firmly believes that international trade union solidarity is a shared responsibility. The unity of workers and peoples in times of crisis is essential to protecting human life, defending dignity and supporting communities affected by disasters.<\/p>\n
From Palestine, a people and a workers\u2019 movement that know deeply the meaning of resilience and solidarity, we extend our hand of brotherhood and solidarity to the workers and trade unions of Nepal and to the Nepalese people.<\/p>\n
We stand with you in this difficult moment and express our sincere wishes for the safety of those affected, the recovery of the injured, the safe return of those missing, and a rapid recovery for all communities devastated by this disaster.<\/p>\n
Long live international workers\u2019 solidarity.<\/p>\n
Long live the bonds of solidarity and brotherhood between the Palestinian and Nepalese trade union movements.<\/p>\n
